summarise

The crowds are dwindling, school goes back next week and it seems like we haven’t had much of a summer thus far. The surf has been very summery, I have had a few good onshore sessions this week, in warm (for Victoria) water, so I ain’t complaining too much.

video demo’s from Tomo

New MPH model demo videos, would really like to take a spin on these boards. I have faith in the boards, but Tomo surfs so well it’s a little difficult to translate how the boards might perform for me, in my real world.

An even better comparison might be a bench mark, wave for wave, same surfer, same conditions, surfing a traditional performance short board up against these new interpretations…

cool concept

Would make a great gift for the surf travel/dreamer you know…

december-ing

As another year races towards the finish line – with the seemingly ever building pace, a side effect of a full and busy life? Family, art, work, house renovating and surfing enough to hopefully keep the mid-section from expanding too far… It only takes a moment of contemplative reflection to remind us of the short time we have on this earth, and that enjoying that time in a positive, productive and proactive manner is vital to a happy life, what more could you really want?

Above: a little smudge of a wave I surfed a couple of weeks back, the small glimmer of new swell on a wedgy little bank, the strong cross-shore wind blowing right into it.  Almost uninviting, you might describe it  but surfing is almost always better than not surfing. I had a ball out there on my own in the wind and the chop, figuring out where to sit and which bump would run across the bank with a reasonable shape to it. It’s funny how exceeded expectations can make your day, fun.

Time to seek out alternate waves for a few weeks as the bulk of this states population heads to the beach, clogs the road and the line-ups, hopefully, expectations can be exceeded again, maybe a few times.

Happy festive season!

Tassie

We just spent a week driving around Tasmania, amazing place, endless natural beauty and surf potential. This was the best I found sadly, that’s what you get when you only have a week unless you are really lucky and score a big swell on the east coast.

Somewhere north of Scamander, east coast Tasmania.

a loyal companion

Amick

A very cruisey old girl; Amick is now around the 15 year mark and has been a constant companion to my wife and I. When they say “a pet is for life” they’re talking plenty of truth when it comes to rugged little dogs like Mick. Still full of life but in much shorter bursts, she still often cuts laps around the house on cold mornings at break neck speed, until she realises she’s a senior citizen and makes her way back to bed, or straight for a patch on sunshine on the floor to recharge the batteries.
