Winki-Pop

9/5/2010 Perfect morning at Winki, a Saturday morning with these conditions and only 20 guys in the water, yep there were bigger sets…

Surfed another reef in town this morning, looked a lot better than it was, got a couple of reasonable waves and watched many more roll by…

My new studio

Working in the new studio, fantastic to have this space, built by hand (mine), hammer and nails, learnt a lot, I’ll never stop up plaster again… Good experience, very rewarding, even more so now that I am able to make use of it. The walls wear the marks of creative expression as each piece develops, a historical document in it’s own right? I think I might be getting a little carried away now…

Nice peaks

After a wet and wild weekend of weather, the skys cleared and I scored a nice little peak. Same location as Thursday last, the bank is still producing, hard to pick the best swell/tide. Have been a little lucky I think…

Mysto Bank

Maybe the change of season? A reasonable bank down the beach at the Haven.

Summer time

Had a few nice little peaks down at Eastern View this morning, strong offshore with a few moments of calm. Tide coming in and the swell dropping so got a bit slow towards the end. A couple of 3 foot sets, fun. I do have zero surf fitness though, ouch!

Back on the horse

Finally got a little wave down around eastern view. Good to get wet before the madness of summer really kicks in next week and the place loses it’s identity for a few weeks.

Life is busy…

Been a while and I have not been in the water for what seems like a really long time… Exhibiting art, selling and buying a house, moving, painting and of course keeping business on track. Hopefully things will be a little more on track soon, with a new bub on the way, due mid Feb they will need to be!

PADANG EARTHQUAKE RELIEF APPEAL

SurfAid has launched an Emergency Response Appeal to help the people of Padang who were hit by a huge earthquake (7.6 on the Richter scale) on Wednesday 30 September.

Our Program Director, Dr David Lange, narrowly escaped death as he fled the Ambacang Hotel, which then collapsed, killing many and trapping others.

Many buildings have been destroyed with people caught underneath the rubble.  There is a report that schoolchildren are still trapped underneath three schools.  One hospital is destroyed and another so badly damaged that staff are working in tents outside. Doctors used car headlights and torches to operate on the injured overnight.

Dr David Lange said:  “People are trapped and screaming for help but they are below huge slabs which will take heavy equipment to move.  I saw dozens of the biggest buildings collapsed in town, most of the damage is concentrated in the commercial centre market, which was fully packed.”

Any donations you can make are greatly appreciated.
